Art connects different living environments and creates new spaces.
We would like to stimulate this transcultural, artistic discourse using different formats and promote the establishment of long-term, growing networks.
The WELTKUNSTZIMMER residency offers a platform for cross-genre exchange in analog and digital spaces. The residency program consists of networking, artistic presentations, discourses and an exchange with the respective regions.
Gustavo Gomes, Tiko Imnadze, Hasmik Tangyan
Tata Potskhverashvili, Henguchi, Deepanwita Roy, Rebekka Ana Aimée Stuhlemer, Karen Fritz
Ramon Graefenstein, Wanda Koller, Mari Kalabegashvili, Nareh Petrossian, Ninutsa Shatberashvili, Sonia Soney, Ainesh Madan
The aim of the residency program is to combine different art forms in joint research and exchange. The cross-genre residency program in Düsseldorf is divided into three paths: visual arts/media/photography/film, dance/performing arts and music/sound. These three paths lead equally to different encounters on site. With the help of the existing networks of the Weltkunstzimmer in Düsseldorf and NRW, as well as the interfaces to all participating residency partners, regional institutions and actors will be introduced, visited or invited.
This can take the form of joint visits to institutions (dance houses, museums, academies, etc.), studio visits, open work rehearsals, artist exchanges, artistic presentations/experiments/insights into works, talks/workshops or screenings. Regular opportunities are offered to immerse yourself in the local and diverse art scene and to inspire it in equal measure.
The interdisciplinary orientation of the residency project makes it possible to broaden one's own perspective and to penetrate other forms of artistic work and presentation. It would be particularly desirable for long-term, cross-genre, international networks, collaborations and contacts to develop through the longer residency stay on site and the joint activities.
Since 2015, the Frauenkulturbüro NRW e.V. established networks of cultural exchange between Georgia, Armenia and NRW as an artist exchange program, under the decisive leadership of Maria Wildeis and already at that time in cooperation with the Museum Goch and the WELTKUNSTZIMMER . The current residency draws on this long-standing partnership and continues to offer it a platform. The program will be expanded to include an all-gender perspective and artistic positions from Osaka (2022), Bangalore and Toulouse (tbc).
The exchange with Bangalore is a joint development with the Goethe Institut Bangalore, the Ben J. Riepe Company and FREIRAUM.
The partnership with Osaka came about through the long-standing connection between the photo artists Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber to The Blend Exchange Program in Konohana, Osaka.
The planned exchange with Toulouse is the result of a partnership with the artist run space Lieu-Commun in Toulouse under the direction of Manuel Pomar.
Concept and artistic direction: Janine Blöß
Project management: Martha Martens, Maria Wildeis (2021 - 2023)
Coordination and communication: Nora Faust
