Inspired by the special architecture of the Weltkunstzimmer (WKZ) and collective reflection on traces, we came up with the concept of “ghosts” as a metaphor for our exhibition. Ghosts as time-based apparitions and spaces as overlapping layers of time. With the history of the old factory building and its relics, the space invites us to search for the traces that we find in structures, systems and in ourselves.
“GHOSTS AT THE FEAST” is an idiom from Shakespeare that refers to memories that we want to forget but cannot. With this reference, we evoke our memories, walk in the traces we find, dig into the layers of what has been abandoned and left behind, retrieve, conjure up and illuminate what haunts us. The festival is the exhibition space in which we talk about ghosts and welcome them.
The works were discussed together with the artists in the colloquium “urban stage ff.” by Prof. Mischa Kuball. The way in which connections are made between the artworks are the direct result of our reception of the special architecture of the WKZ and the relationship of the individual works to the concept of “ghosts” The artists are organized in groups, in so-called “zones”, in which they exchange ideas, support each other and find connections between their works. The overlaps create a collective landscape.
Welcome to our feast!
