RESIDENCY 2023
Tbilisi // Goch // Düsseldorf
Art breaks down boundaries, questions the existing, empowers itself and creates new spaces. A cosmopolitan and diverse society is characterised by diverse forms of artistic expression and cultural practices from a wide variety of life worlds. In particular, transcultural and border-crossing encounters should be stimulated with the means of art and, in the best case, manifest themselves in long-term artistic networks.
One artist residing in Georgia is invited to spend two months in Goch and Düsseldorf to get to know the region of North Rhine-Westphalia and to meet the local artistic actors. There are numerous moments of exchange, the stay in the studios is designed for one person at a time.
The residency program of the WELTKUNSTZIMMER is looking for participants who are open to reflect on their own artistic working processes and who are interested in discussing their own and other working strategies. Resident artists* should be open to sharing insights into their work processes with both their professional colleagues and the general public. Applicants should also have a general interest in the interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge, strategies, and theoretical and practical approaches between the arts.
We welcome applications from artists of all disciplines; the decisive factors are projects and experience, rather than education and awards.
Applications should be sent by email.
For more information on the residency program, visit:
https://weltkunstzimmer.de/residency/
The deadline for applications is Monday, June 12, 2023.
Structure Residency Program
The goal of the residency program is to connect different art forms for joint research and exchange. The cross-genre residency program is divided into three paths: visual arts/media/photo/film, dance/performing arts and music/sound. The paths lead equally to different encounters on site.
With the help of the existing networks of the WELTKUNSTZIMMER in Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as the connections to all participating residency partners, regional institutions and actors are to be met, visited or invited. This can take place in the form of joint institutional visits (dance houses, museums, academies,...), studio visits, open work samples, artist exchanges, artistic presentations/experiments/work insights, talks/workshops or screenings. Regular opportunities are offered to immerse oneself in the local and diverse art scene and to inspire it in equal measure.
The interdisciplinary orientation of the residency project makes it possible to broaden one's own view and to engage with other artistic forms of work and presentation.
The WELTKUNSTZIMMER residency is based on the network of cultural exchange between Georgia, Armenia and NRW, which has already been established since 2015 and has been effectively built up by the Frauenkulturbüro NRW e.V. as an artist exchange program until 2019. The travel grant includes 2.0000€ for two months per person, housing on site and the coverage of travel expenses from Georgia or Armenia and back.
Requirements WELTKUNSTZIMMER Residency
The WELTKUNSTZIMMER has set itself the goal of offering artists the opportunity to gather inspiration and to support them according to their individual working methods, without acting in a monetarily or economically goal-oriented way.
Through the residency program, the WELTKUNSTZIMMER would like to enter into an open dialogue with artists (m/f/d) in order to, on the one hand, constantly question the instrument of "artist funding" and, on the other hand, to support the artists with all possibilities in their artistic journey.
By creating space for inspiration, exchange and new insights, WELTKUNSTZIMMER seeks to promote the contemporary artist(s) as effectively as possible.
In order for the residency program to be successful for all participating artists, we have the following requirements for applicants:
♦ Openness to transcultural, interdisciplinary exchange with other artists* in the fields of visual arts, performing arts/dance, and music/sound in Goch and Düsseldorf, Germany.
♦ Interest in joint visits to a wide variety of event formats, institutions, and actors from the respective genres (e.g. festivals, concerts, studios, exhibitions, discussions, etc.).
♦ All communication during the residency will be in English, so fluency in English is required for this residency.
In addition, the residency can also be used for research, conceptual rehearsal, or concrete elaboration.
The Weltkunstzimmer Residency is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and by the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf.
