Learning together, artistic experiments, transcultural exchange, interdisciplinary discourse - the first WELTKUNSTZIMMER Summer School in cooperation with the Ben J. Riepe Kompanie
The German-Brazilian Summer School MEDO/ANGST at the interface of dance, performance, visual arts and society opens up its spaces for joint learning, research and encounters. What does existential fear mean? What happens when fear becomes a driver of oppression and social exclusion? And how can lost freedom be reclaimed?
The Summer School aims to sensitize people to current social phenomena and raise awareness beyond local borders for global cohesion in existential questions of human existence. Throughout the entire duration, open rehearsals, choreographed dinners, workshops, talks, performances, parties and film screenings will take an artistic, transcultural and discursive approach to the topic of fear. Insights into the long-term, performative project MEDO/ANGST (eng: "fear") by Ben J. Riepe and the Brazilian/German dancers Sebastião Abreu, Sauane Costa, Thor Galileo, Wendel Lima, Aaron S. Davis, Tyshea Suggs will open up in conjunction with an interdisciplinary exchange with artists, experts, activists and urban society.
Fear of the other is a phenomenon of our time. Stoking it is the preferred instrument of power of the new populist right, in Germany as well as in Brazil. In addition to the old elites and the military, evangelical free churches are also gaining influence in Brazil and providing the moral foundation for an increasingly exclusionary, discriminatory and anti-democratic policy. The MEDO/ANGST exchange project is an exploration of possible ways to counter these social and political charges: In the sense of an interrogation of self and others, a juxtaposition and - if you will - a search for lost freedom in art. For MEDO/ ANGST, choreographer Ben J. Riepe works with an ensemble of dancers and well-known Brazilian activists from the LGBTQI scene.
The first WELTKUNSTZIMMER Summer School MEDO/ANGST is an open meeting space. The events do not build on each other and can be attended individually. Admission is generally free, unless there is a reference to ticket sales.
The Summer School is part of the MEDO/ANGST exchange project by Ben J. Riepe with the production partners Baobá Produções Artísticas, the Centro Cultural Plataforma and the Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia and in cooperation with the Sommerblut Kulturfestival and the asphalt-festival.

The Summer School in the WELTKUNSTZIMMER is sponsored by:
