From October 16 to November 2, 2025, we will present works by Shilpa Nayudu and Majd Suliman, created during the WELTKUNSTZIMMER Residency as part of the Borderland Residencies. In addition, on October 23, Narek Arushanyan will open his final residency project.

This year, Shilpa Nayudu from Goa, India, and Narek Arushanyan from Yerevan, Armenia, were invited to Düsseldorf to immerse themselves in the local art scene. The final exhibition brings together their works with those of Düsseldorf-based artist Majd Suliman, who traveled to Georgia and Armenia in spring 2025 as part of the WELTKUNSTZIMMER Residency.

The presented works include both outcomes from the residencies and independent pieces. Each artist pursues distinct thematic focuses in their practice.

Shilpa Nayudu explores the body as a vessel of resilience and hope. Under the title “Inner Cartography: The Fabric of Being”, she presents a series of paintings, material experiments, and cyanotype prints that trace the body’s inner terrains and pathways . Alongside these works, she showcases embroidered textiles from her ongoing participatory project Slow Stitch Circle – We Are All One, where collective stitching highlights the warmth of human connection and shared being.

Narek Arushanyan zeigt im Rahmen der Residenzpräsentation ein Projekt im Kontext einer Gemeinschaftsausstellung unter dem Titel „The Tongues of Birds” (Zungen der Vögel). Seine Werke erscheinen oft in kollektiven Kontexten und politischen Umgebungen.
"The Tongues of Birds" ist eine von Künstler*innen organisierte Gemeinschaftsausstellung, die auf der Idee basiert, dass jedes Gedicht immer gemeinsam geschrieben wird. "The Tongues of Birds" ist ein gemeinsam geschaffener Kontext, um der Spaltung der Welt entgegenzuwirken, einer Welt, die die Freude und Magie der Träume in den Schatten stellt, Erotik durch Pornografie ersetzt und Körper entfremdet. Wir vereinen uns dort, wo wir getrennt sind, wir alle können zu Künstler*innen werden und die Kunst kann uns die Möglichkeit geben, Widerstand zu leisten und auf Zusammengehörigkeit zu blicken. Wenn du alleine träumst, ist es nur ein Traum. Wenn ihr gemeinsam träumt, ist es Realität. In Majd Suliman’s “DIY Dream”, one not only hears the soft hum of motors or the fluttering of butterfly wings but also discovers traces of personal and social stories woven between them.

Since 2015, the Frauenkulturbüro NRW e.V. has established networks of cultural exchange between Georgia, Armenia, and North Rhine-Westphalia, led by Maria Wildeis and in cooperation with Museum Goch and WELTKUNSTZIMMER. Building on this long-standing partnership, the program has been continued at WELTKUNSTZIMMER since 2020 with an expanded all-gender perspective. Since autumn 2024, the WELTKUNSTZIMMER Residency has been part of the Borderland Residencies, a network of artist residencies in the Rhine-Meuse region.
This year also marks the renewal of the collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Bangalore / Max Mueller Bhavan within the framework of BangaloREsidency-Expanded.
