As part of their working stay in Düsseldorf, Gvantsa Jishkariani and Lusine Talalyan present their artistic work in an exhibition that can be visited in the guest room of the Weltkunstzimmer until the end of June. They open up their situation as visual artists at the interface with activism in conversation with Maria Wildeis, representative of the Frauenkulturbüro NRW.
The international artists' exchange of the Frauenkulturbüro NRW enables visual artists to spend two months studying and working and thus promotes cultural networking between Germany and the host countries Georgia and Armenia.
The Weltkunstzimmer participates in this exchange programme, which is unique for NRW, by providing guest artist studios where the artists can live and work during their stay in NRW.
 Â
Lusine Talalyan, born in Armenia in 1975, is a co-founder of the queer Yerevan collective, which is used as a field of experimentation by artists, writers, cultural critics and activists. During her scholarship residency in Düsseldorf, she explored the image and role of women in the Soviet era through portraits of women.
Â
Gvantsa Jishkariani, born in 1991 in Georgia, works in installations, multimedia and sculpture. During her scholarship stay in Düsseldorf, she is also working with photographic processes.Â
"My work first and foremost addresses the temporary nature of the paradox that arises when searching for concrete definitions of right and wrong, east and west, old and new, art and design. Through installations, videos and sculptures I take traditional notions of cultural identity, ancient views, paradoxical beliefs and try to ironically turn them inside out."
