Summer Festival for Theatre and Music
in Düsseldorf
Â
6 - 11 July 2012
Put an end to the cultural summer slump - there is a new festival for theatre and music in Düsseldorf! From 6 to 11 July 2012, Asphalt will present contemporary culture from the fields of music and theatre for the first time at special locations and in unusual spaces in the city. Asphalt is to become an integral part of the summer cultural calendar and establish itself as an annual festival.
The city of Düsseldorf as a living space is the focus of Asphalt. When most venues take their summer break, Asphalt opens up various locations throughout the city as stages. Under the motto: "Out of the theatre, into the city!" the festival offers theatre productions in a former baking factory, contemporary music in churches and a "tour of gentle tristesse" in an industrial estate.
The six-day festival includes a total of 17 events at various venues. Theatre productions and performances with ensembles from Berlin, Cologne and Düsseldorf can be seen, including three world premieres. Musically, the spectrum ranges from new music to Balkan ska reggae punk and electro to acoustic jazz. The festival centre and main venue of Asphalt is the building of the Hans Peter Zimmer Foundation (HPZ) in the former baking factory CON-SUM, Ronsdorfer Straße 77a. The Spoerl restaurant will also run a culinary festival garden there. The initiators of the festival are director Christof Seeger-Zurmühlen and composer Bojan Vuletic. Asphalt 2012 is supported materially and financially by the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf, Rheinbahn AG, medium-sized sponsors and private donors.
The festival homepage www.asphalt-festival.de is now online!
With the kind support of the state capital Düsseldorf.
