IIII WANT YOU TO TALK / Private Talk-Show
In November, we welcome guests from Japan to the World Art Room. The two artists Takuma Uematsu (Osaka) and Yuki Hayashi (Kobe) will present sculptures and video works in the exhibition "Anata ga hoshii. I want you."
Together with curator Tadashi Kobayashi (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Kobe) and designer Tetsuya Goto, they explore questions of translation and communication about art. The literal translation of the title "Anata ga hoshii" doesn't do justice to the two possible interpretations in Japanese: "Anata" can mean another person, another time, or another place. And the lack of a nominative case in the Japanese title further complicates the translation.
The fact that the artists and the curator have nevertheless or precisely chosen this title indicates their interest in the complexity of art, but also in communication, in images, in language, in understanding and its changes between Osaka and Düsseldorf.
"Via Skype, it's now easy to communicate face-to-face with people in other countries, and we meet in virtual spaces. The journey from Osaka to Düsseldorf still takes almost a full day, and space travel is still relatively distant. Research into immortality in the life sciences is slower than that in information technology. Our minds are liberating themselves online, while our bodies are trapped by gravity on Earth. What a contradiction! So we will bring our bodies to Düsseldorf and become aware of our free and limited possibilities." (Curator Tadashi Kobayashi)
The exhibition is curated by Tadashi Kobayashi (Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art) and organized by Tetsuya Goto ooo projects. The exhibition exchange takes place in collaboration with Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber.
