What does energy mean for us and other species? How is it produced and how is it consumed? What does it mean as a resource in today's cities? How is it produced and distributed globally? What concepts for generating energy are possible? And what happens when it fails?
Energy is a fundamental physical quantity in biology, physics, technology and economics. It sustains the existence of every living organism. All living things are based on it - food, movement, heat and complex metabolic processes. If energy production begins to falter, exhaustion occurs first and then the organism is threatened with failure.
Energy also plays a central role in urban design. Cities are power plants and catalysts for energy generation. In an age of smart city visions, electric mobility and gigantic server farms, the question of renewable, sustainable energy has long been raised due to climate change and resource scarcity. At the same time, there are always uncertainties in the supply. In many areas of the world, regular outages have long been part of everyday life. Energy is a fragile factor, existential, fragile and vulnerable.
