What does retreating inward mean to us? When is it a place of refuge, and when a zone of conflict? What do we see and experience when we look inside ourselves? What happens when such a place of retreat is missing or has been lost? Turning inward can represent a familiar home, safety, intimacy, and a protective space. At the same time, it can also involve isolation, loneliness, or inner tension. This year’s 5th Urban Space Videowalk is held under the theme “Inner Perspectives”. The “inner” or “inner life” is to be explored cinematically from a wide range of perspectives—architectural, emotional, and societal.
For the 5th Videowalk, we’ve chosen to turn our gaze inward. Instead of venturing out into the city, we pause for a brief moment, linger, and discover unfamiliar terrain within familiar surroundings. On the expansive grounds of the former bread factory—now the WELTKUNSTZIMMER—an urban video trail will take shape, which we will explore together on a shared walk. Unusual niches, hidden corners, and plant-covered courtyard spaces will become nighttime projection surfaces, merging with the film works to form a temporary open-air cinema.Â
