Shilpa Nayudu is a visual artist who works with various media. She finds inspiration in the human body, Mother Nature, and the spaces around her. Her practice explores her reflections on existence and captures the conflicting feelings of wonder and dismay that arise within her as she grapples with the transience of life. Her diverse background enriches her artistic perspective. Shilpa's recent works are marked by a deep admiration and gratitude for the human body and spirit, reflecting her blend of artistic curiosity, medical knowledge, and reverence for the subject she depicts.
Shilpa Nayudu's artistic practice, rooted primarily in painting, embroidery, collage, and printmaking, explores invisible yet essential aspects of existence—the physiological, emotional, and ephemeral. At the heart of her work is an exploration of the body as an invisible inner universe—a landscape of rhythms, topographies, and spaces. She strives to expand her work by integrating German, Romanian, and Georgian cultural embroidery and textiles alongside her own Indian embroidery traditions. Through sewing, layering, and assembling textiles, she aims to create a series of fabric works that fuse these traditions together—a reflection of cultural hybridity, adaptation, and the body as a living archive of unity in diversity.
During her stay, she would like to develop a series of works that make the hidden inner landscapes of the body perceptible.
"My work is an exploration of the seemingly mundane yet profoundly precious aspects of life. It is a celebration of gratitude—of the nourishment found in daily meals, the warmth of human connection, and the intricate mechanisms that sustain my body and mind. Working in series allows me to delve deeply into each of these simple yet significant facets of existence. Keeping the series ongoing gives them room to evolve, enabling each new piece to rekindle the intention that sparked the series’ creation.
The choice of medium often emerges organically, guided by the subject itself. I incorporate self-imagery and trace the contours of my body, making my art deeply personal. This process is often cathartic—a way to ground myself and honor the connection between my inner world and the external. As I journey to new places, uncover the layers of my mind, and learn to cherish my body a little more each day, my series continue to branch and grow, organically reflecting my experiences and evolution. "
