L'espace en question is a project that explores the notion of space in painting and/or drawing and, conversely, drawing and/or painting in space. Rébecca Konforti and Romain Ruiz-Pacouret have already participated several times in exchange projects between France and Germany, and their knowledge of the two scenes led them to create this project. They are the artists, coordinators and curators of the collaboration, supported by the teams of the two venues.
The first exhibition took place from May to June 2023 at the artist-run center Lieu-Commun in Toulouse, the second will take place from the end of August to the end of September 2023 at the Weltkunstzimmer in Düsseldorf. The aim of this project is to organize a series of truly collective exhibitions and not just to present works in close proximity to each other. The principle is that contemporary art is not just a way of thinking about art, but can also be a special place for several disciplines. In the exhibition space, German and French artists and other art professionals have the opportunity to form a community, to live and work on a common ground, that of contemporary art. Building on their first experience in Toulouse, the artists are invited to make new proposals that question the “painting and space” approach while taking their place in the Weltkunstzimmer.
Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf and Lieu-Commun.
