The dynamic exhibition “EVOLVING PICTURES” experiments with the direct influence of two performances (opening and closing events) on an arrangement of 8–10 large-format paintings by Walter Padao, and vice versa.
The performance (and also the painting process!) is a flow of energy in space and time. The actors are sources and catalysts. At the same time, they are responsible for the direction of flow, the bundling, and the concentration of energy. The quality of improvisation, and thus the possibility of intense audience participation, is formulated in “listening to each other,” acting, reacting, pausing, and accelerating again. Painting or drawing plays a somewhat special role here because it leaves a visible trace of the action, becoming an image. And even though it emerges from it, it stands in contrast to the processual nature of the action. In “EVOLVING PICTURES,” the relationship between painting and the two ephemeral arts, dance and music, is therefore a particular focus.
