Butoh is more than an artistic performance, more than theater. It is an art form that forms a connection, the aim of which is to develop an energetic dynamic that touches people at their core.
The Japanese dance Butoh is a way of activating the human body-cell memory. We are in a constant state of development. The universe is here and now, death and life an ongoing story. In engaging with the performance, people, both as actors and spectators, take on personal responsibility and no longer feel part of an individual drama, but as part of a global context.
In Yukio Suzuki's workshop, the theme is: stand still, collapse.
This workshop is about exploring your own body and movement using the Butoh method. Yukio Suzuki wants to share the dance path of Ko Murobushi, with whom he studied for ten years.
"I have learned many things through Butoh. And Butoh also offers many possibilities for today's dance. That's why I want to take the idea and method of Butoh and develop it further myself. I want to perform for the present, because Butoh has influenced a lot of contemporary dance and performance in the world. I think that Butoh is always a challenge in today's world."
In Seiji Tanaka's workshop, participants will encounter their own body and mind through a variety of experiences, from the basics of butoh, such as standing, walking and building the center of the body, to improvisational dance and dancing your life as it is. It is a journey that requires perseverance.
Where does the dance begin? Immerse yourself in this great mystery.
Moeno Wakamatsu's dance workshop thematically revolves around the origin of images. The mechanism of how images are created is one of the foundations of her dance work. Looking into the origin of images is like looking into nothingness, but the depth of this unknown void may feel almost intimate, and there is no obligation except to remain present. Images are like disappearing threads of smoke, where only by pulling and feeling the resistance and direction and quality is there any hope of "knowing" the unknown existence on the other side - and where the threads begin, she senses that there might be an origin.
In her workshop, Yuko Kaseki works with the question: What is inevitable about existence and movement, its desire, its impulse, its magic, its mystery or its logical reason?
Dance until there is no more dance that you know.
Free yourself from your mind and body and let us dive into an unknown world by opening the door with Butoh as the key.
Dance is the accumulation of magical moments.
The circulation and transmission of energy awaken body awareness.
A reference that connects the present, the origin/antiquity and future dances. It is a physical philosophy and takes up the dance that plays with individuals and the supernatural.
This workshop is open to all people who want to explore and challenge their deeper self and who have the curiosity, courage and desire to explore movement and expression through the performative body.
